Tanjung Selor, North Kalimanta (ANTARA) – Mass organizations in North Kalimantan on Saturday unfurled a 2,026-meter red-and-white banner at a rally in Bulungan District to commemorate the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence this month.
North Kalimantan Governor Zainal A. Paliwang commended the youth and ordinary residents who participated in the parade, which was organized by the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI) and the Orang Indonesia (OI) community.
“I thank all participants who joined the parade enthusiastically. I also laud KNPI and other parties who made the event a success,” Paliwang stated while sending off the parade.
The governor considered the parade a “simple way” to instill the spirit of nationalism in the people beyond Independence Day, which fell on August 17.
Meanwhile, Secretary of KNPI’s North Kalimantan branch Sakti Abimanyu said that the 2,026-meter banner was raised by over 1,000 participants during the parade, adding that 60 public organizations representing the local community, youth, and students joined the rally.

“The parade’s purpose is to instill love for peace in residents, especially the younger generation, in Bulungan District, North Kalimantan,” Abimanyu stated.
He noted that the parade took place along a 4-kilometer route, starting at the headquarters of the 0903/Bulungan Military District Command and ending at the Love and Peace Monument on the banks of the Kayan River.
“The activity reflected contributions from the younger generation to instill nationalism and their commitment to build solidarity among the society,” he added.
Moreover, Che Ageng, head of the OI community’s Tarakan branch, said that Saturday’s flag parade was the second in Bulungan District, with the first rally in 2022 involving the unfurling of a 677-meter red-and-white banner to mark the 77th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence.
“We hope more people will participate and raise together the red-and-white banner,” Che Ageng remarked.
