Bengkayang, West Kalimantan (ANTARA) –

Some 3,000 red-and-white Indonesian flags have been raised on the Indonesia-Malaysia border in Jagoi Babang Sub-district, Bengkayang District, West Kalimantan, to mark the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence next week.

“Thousands of the flags fluttering along the road from Sungai Take intersection to the Jagoi Babang border crossing post and to the kilometer zero of the Indonesia-Malaysian border,” Jagoi Babang Sub-district Head Saidin stated on Tuesday.

Besides raising the flag along the road to the border, the local authority also organized the “Red-and-White Parade,” where participants marched for 4 kilometers from the Jagoi village office to the border crossing post in a show of patriotism and pride in the nation’s symbol.

During the activity, they unfolded a giant Indonesian flag measuring 8 x 17 meters.

According to the sub-district head, the parade and the flag decoration along the road reflected local residents’ nationalism and understanding of their strategic position in the border area.

“Jagoi Babang is not merely a minor sub-district as we all stand here as the front porch of Indonesia, directly facing the neighboring country,” Saidin stressed.

“We want to convey the message that nationalism among Jagoi Babang residents is not fading. We are always patriots to preserve the unity of Indonesia,” he added.

Saidin said that the spirit should be reflected in concrete actions, such as by contributing to national development and maintaining interethnic and interfaith harmony in border areas.

He also encouraged the younger generation to embrace diversity as a boost in regional development instead of the fuel of division. “Let us make our differences a power to advance Jagoi Babang Sub-district,” he remarked.
