305 of students Sekolah Rakyat in Sinjai begin using new building

Makassar (ANTARA) – A total of 305 students, teachers, and educational staff of Sekolah Rakyat officially began using the new building in Sinjai Regency in South Sulawesi on Saturday.

“Our students, totaling 305 children across all levels (elementary, junior high, and senior high), have moved into the dormitory and the school,” said Rahmat Surianto, Principal of the Integrated Sekolah Rakyat in Sinjai (SRT), in Makassar on Sunday.

The school has received 230 new students out of a quota of 270. However, he noted that based on preliminary outreach results, there are only 230 children, while there are 75 remaining students from the previous academic year.

“Until now, 230 students have been successfully reached and formally admitted. We remain hopeful that the quota can be met,” he said.

The new students will undergo an extended School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) through dormitory-based programs before beginning the academic curriculum, which involves teachers, educational staff, and guest partners, including the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), starting on August 19 until the end of the month.

SRT Sinjai had previously welcomed hundreds of new students on June 13; however, as the school construction was not yet complete, the students were sent home to minimize risks regarding their safety and comfort.

The principal said that although the building was not yet 100 percent complete, its condition was considered adequate for SRT activities, including dormitory operations.

It also provides 26 guest teachers for the new students, including 17 senior high school teachers.
