Jakarta (ANTARA) – As many as 738,853 student savings accounts have been opened under the 2022 Kejar Prestasi Generasi Muda Indonesia (Kreasimuda) or the Youth Savings for Inclusivity program, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) has reported.

“During the Kreasimuda’s 2022 period, (which was) July 1 to August 15, 2022, some 738,853student savings accounts were opened, consisting of 694,955 student savings accounts (Simpel) and other 43,898 children’s accounts,” OJK board of commissioners’ member for consumer education and protection, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, informed here on Tuesday.

In 2020, OJK launched the One Account for One Student (KEJAR) and the student and youth savings (SiMuda) programs under Presidential Decree No. 26 of 2019 on Indonesia Savings Day (HIM).

During the Kreasimuda 2022 period, the value of students’ savings reached Rp104.37 billion– Rp45.02 billion for Simpel and Rp59.35 billion for other children’s savings.

“This figure far exceeds the target of Kreasimuda for savings accounts opening for children, students, and college students, which is 250 thousand accounts,” Dewi said.

She advised students to save smartly so they are better placed to make important financial plans in the future.

The Kreasimuda activity was themed “Realizing a Creative, Innovative, and Inclusive Young Generation” and comprised a series of account opening activities, the issuance of a circular letter supporting the KEJAR Program, as well as massive financial publication and educational activities.

In addition to account opening activities, at least 2,404 financial education activities targeting students, college students, and other school officials were carried out across Indonesia. More than 273,436 participants attended the activities.

During the event, the SiMUDA Gen 2 Program was launched in response to the needs of the community, especially the 18-30 age group, to improve their financial planning skills.
