Landslide kills four people in N Sumatra

Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) – A landslide hit a car carrying five people on Medan-Berastagi highway in North Sumatra province on Saturday night, leaving four people dead.

The bodies of two car passengers have been evacuated, while those of two others were still trapped in the car, Chief of the Traffic Police Unit at the Medan City Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Sonny Siregar said.

“One person survived. He has also been evacuated,” he said.

He said the landslide occurred at 07.30 p.m. local time on Saturday night and hit a car carrying five people.

By Saturday night, the evacuation was still ongoing and several workers were removing the debris from the scene using an excavator.

“The other heavy-duty equipment is still on the way to the scene,” he said.
