Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo has lauded the role played by the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator (ACT-A) in encouraging the development of COVID-19 drugs, tools, and vaccines.

“Thank you the WHO (World Health Organization) director general for your invitation. I highly appreciate ACT-A’s role in encouraging the development of and fair access to COVID-19 drugs, diagnosis devices, and vaccines,” he remarked in a virtual address at the ACT-Accelerator Campaign 2022, accessed through the Youtube channel of the Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday night.

ACT-A is an essential part of the global health architecture and concrete proof of the benefits of multilateralism, he said.

Looking ahead, ACT-A’s role will still be badly needed, particularly to bridge global vaccine inequality, Widodo added.

“No one is safe until everyone is. I call on countries and donors to use this opportunity to strengthen their support for ACT-A,” he said.
