Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia has been appointed as host of the 7th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) since the country has been active in implementing disaster mitigation measures, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has informed.

“Indonesia is the only developing country which has compiled the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) regarding disaster prevention,” Deputy for Systems and Strategy at BNPB Raditya Jati said here on Thursday.

Technical Committee 13-08, which was established by the National Standards Agency (BSN), has compiled 23 Indonesian National Standard (SNI) and ISO documents on disaster mitigation since 2011, he informed.

The prepared disaster standards can serve as a reference for ministries, institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as related parties in implementing comprehensive and systematic disaster mitigation measures, he said.

Adopting ISO standards, the Indonesian government has created SNI 22301:2019 on Business Continuity Management System-Requirements, which can be integrated into SNI 9050:2022 on Epidemic Disaster Mitigation System, he added.

“It proves that Indonesia’s resources are qualified to prepare quality disaster standards,” the deputy stated.

Indonesia will host the 7th GPDRR at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center, Badung district, Bali province, from May 23-28, 2022, he added.

“The implementation of the event can be considered as a proof of international trust in Indonesia to organize the forum, which is usually held in Geneva,” he remarked.

He said the forum promotes shared responsibilities of the government, academics, NGOs, business institutions, the community, as well as the media to collaborate in improving disaster mitigation attempts.

“The 7th GPDRR is a starting point for Indonesia to become a global leader in strengthening disaster mitigation through the establishment and implementation of disaster standardization,” he added.

According to the official site of the forum, the main theme of the 7th GPDRR will be ‘From Risk to Resilience: Towards Sustainable Development for All in a COVID-19 Transformed World.’
