Jakarta (ANTARA) – The British Embassy in Indonesia planted a Gaharu tree in the embassy’s gardens to mark Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years of service to the UK and the Commonwealth.
“So, we bought this tree for our Queen. It is a Gaharu tree, a tree that is native to Indonesia,” Deputy British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, Robb Fenn, said at the event here on Wednesday.
Fenn said that the tree planting was part of a series of activities to celebrate 70 years of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The event also supports the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, under which more than 1 million trees have been planted in the UK so far in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee.

“We hope that it will thrive just as the relationship between the UK and Indonesia is thriving,” the deputy ambassador remarked.
He further said he hoped that in the next 70 years, the tree will witness many positive changes in relations between the two countries.
“That we will continue to move forward and grow together,” he added.
