Quake of magnitude 5.0 rattles East Nusa Tenggara

Jakarta (ANTARA) – An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 hit East Nusa Tenggara Province on Tuesday night.

The epicenter of the earthquake that struck at 22:52 WIB (West Indonesia Standard Time) was located at sea, some 68 kilometers (km) northwest of the provincial capital of Kupang, at a depth of 78 km, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported.

The tremor was felt at Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) II-III in Maumere City on Flores Island and Lembata District on Lembata Island, East Nusa Tenggara.

A quake of MMI II was felt by some people that caused the hung light articles to shake, while a quake of MMI III could be felt indoors akin to the movement of a truck.
