Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA) – A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall buried seven illegal cinnabar miners on Mount Tambaga, Seram Bagian Barat district, Maluku province.

Chief of the Seram Bagian Barat District Police, Adjunct Senor Commissioner Dennie Andreas Dharmawan, confirmed the incident.

“It is true they are illegal cinnabar miners there,” he told ANTARA over the phone on Tuesday.

Only four of the seven illegal cinnabar miners have been found so far, he said adding, two of them died and two survived the landslide.

“One of the bodies of the two cinnabar miners was buried in Hulung and the other was taken to Ambon,” he said.

A team of rescue workers is searching for three missing miners.

The victims were reportedly inside a tent when the landslide occurred.
