Five NGO members detained for vandalizing Tangerang DPRD Office

Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) – The Tangerang City Police detained five non-governmental organization (NGO) members on charges of vandalizing the offices of the City Legislative Council (DPRD) on Thursday.

Chief of the Tangerang City Police, Senior Commissioner Raden Rhomdon Natakusuma, said on Friday that his men are investigating the five NGO members.

“It’s true, the perpetrators are currently being investigated,” he added

One of the suspects has been identified by his initials as F. He is aged between 35 and 40.

“The investigation is still underway,” he said.

The five who claimed to be members of NGO Kesatria Muda came to the DPRD office to seek clarification about their letter rejecting the planned construction of a regional general hospital in Tigaraksa.

Alleging that the DPRD did not follow up on the letter, they shouted and vandalized several facilities at the DPRD office.

“Seeing that (the letter) is not followed up on, they lodged a protest and felt annoyed and then vandalized facilities at the DPRD office,” he informed.

They have been charged with violating Article 406 of the Penal Code on vandalism.

If found guilty, they could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
