Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) is committed and plays an active role in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) as stipulated in Presidential Regulation No. 59 of 2017 concerning the implementation of SDGs.
In line with this, IDX Director Risa E. Rustam said that the IDX had implemented initiatives to realize a series of sustainable finance programs.
Rustam explained that in order to strengthen these sustainable finance programs, IDX had systematically developed a sustainable finance action plan (RAKB), with one of the focus areas being environmental sustainability performance.
“For this reason, coinciding with the IDX Team Building 2022 activity, which is a series of events to commemorate the 30th IDX Anniversary, we again conduct reforestation corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities by planting three thousand mahogany and avocado tree seedlings on September 3, 2022, on the slopes of Mount Merapi, Hargobinangun Village, Pakem, Sleman, Yogyakarta,” he noted in a statement here on Saturday.
Rustam said the activity was attended by directors, commissioners, and IDX employees, with a total of 561 participants. Some 600 seedlings will be planted simultaneously by the employees participating in the IDX Team Building 2022 activity at the planting site.
“The rest of the seeds will be planted by youth organizations and local residents,” Rustam remarked.
He said the slopes of Mount Merapi, especially in the southern part, were selected as reforestation areas, as 80 percent of the main source of clean springs in Yogyakarta came from the southern slopes of Mount Merapi.
However, uncontrolled sand mining activities cause several points of clean water sources to be threatened by dryness.
“Hence, real and immediate action is needed to re-green the water source area through planting trees in the area to save water and natural resources on the slopes of Mount Merapi,” Rustam stated.
Rustam said that mahogany and avocado trees were selected as they have hard stems, have a long lifespan, can absorb air pollution, and produce oxygen that purifies the air, thereby making them suitable for reforestation. Moreover, the avocado tree is compatible with the contours of the soil around Mount Merapi and has roots whose main function is to absorb water.
“After planting, IDX is committed to coordinating with the local village government and youth organizations to conduct regular maintenance and ensure the planted tree seedlings grow well, so that reforestation on the slopes of Mount Merapi can be realized properly,” Rustam remarked.
