Mamuju, West Sulawesi (ANTARA) –Sandeq traditional boat of Mandar tribe in West Sulawesi Province should become an inspiration for the people in dealing with various problems in the country,Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian said here on Sunday.
“Hopefully, it can be an inspiration for all of us to face various problems, both the problems that exist in West Sulawesi, as well as the problems of our nation,” he said while seeing off the participants of the 2022 Sandeq Festival.
The minister said it was for the first time he know about Sandeq boat, and after learning the boat’s history, he was proud of the Mandar Tribe’s outrigger boat, as it could inspire West Sulawesi’s people.

Karnavian lauded the support for the development of Nusantara capital city (IKN) located in East Kalimantan as the theme of the Sandeq Festival 2022 is “Indonesia Supports IKN.”
According to him, six provinces including West Sulawesi and 41 districts will benefit from the IKN development, therefore it is important to support the IKN development.

“No matter what happens in the rivalry in the 2024 general elections, whoever the (next) president is, the six provinces and 41 districts must be together in demanding that the (location of) IKN should not change, it must remain there (East Kalimantan),” Karnavian stated.
The minister also wished the “passandeq” or sandeq boat crew to be safe while sailing from Makassar Strait to the IKN location in East Kalimantan.
“Hopefully, the passandeq and their crews can arrive safely at their destination,” he said.
Meanwhile, Acting Governor of West Sulawesi Akmal Malik expressed his gratitude to the Mamuju District Government and the people of West Sulawesi who supported the 2022 Sandeq Festival.
“We put the safety of the passandeqs first,” Malik added.
