Jakarta (ANTARA) – Analog Switch Off (ASO) program for migrating to digital television in Greater Jakarta area — Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi — will officially be implemented on October 5, 2022, Communication and Informatics Ministry stated.

“The Communication and Informatics Ministry assesses that the Greater Jakarta area and its surrounding areas have met the criteria for implementing ASO, so the discontinuation of analog television broadcasts by all broadcasters in the Greater Jakarta area will be conducted simultaneously on October 5, 2022,” Head of the Public Communication Team for the Digital Television Migration Program at the ministry Rosarita Niken Widiastuti noted at a press conference here, Friday.

The region’s preparedness was based on three aspects: the existence of analog television in the area to be signed off, regional readiness in transitioning to digital television, and whether set-top-boxes (STBs) for the underprivileged community had already been distributed.

ASO execution will take place in 14 cities and districts in the Greater Jakarta area: Central Jakarta, North Jakarta, West Jakarta, South Jakarta, East Jakarta, Kepulauan Seribu District, Bekasi District, Bogor District, Bekasi City, Bogor City, Depok City, Tangerang District, Tangerang City, and South Tangerang City.

Furthermore, the ministry noted that 479,307 STB devices, or 63.4 percent of the total STB assistance for the people in the area, had been disbursed.

Distribution of the aid is expected to be completed by the end of September 2022.

The official remarked that Greater Jakarta area’s residents, who have the devices required to access digital television broadcasts, were able to immediately enjoy the service even before October 5, 2022.

Thus, the digital television broadcast quality will be better as compared to analog.

“Greater Jakarta is the center of television broadcast in Indonesia. Please pay attention to prepare the transition to digital broadcasting as well as possible, so the (implementation of) ASO in Greater Jakarta can provide the benefits of digital broadcasting to the public and become a momentum ahead of the national-scale ASO (implementation) on November 2, 2022,” Widiastuti added.
