Bus carrying 23 passengers overturns in N Sumatra’s South Tapanuli

S Tapanuli (ANTARA) – A bus carrying 23 passengers on board reportedly overturned and plunged into a four-meter-deep ravine in North Sumatra’s South Tapanuli district before dawn on Friday.

Chief of the Traffic Unit of the South Tapanuli District Police, Adjunct Commissioner Sofyan H. Nasution, confirmed news of the accident.

“We are conducting a case reconstruction at the scene at kilometer 36-37 in Aek Badak Jae village, Sayur Matinggi sub-district, South Tapanuli district, North Sumatra,” he informed.

Most of the passengers were students of Purba Baru Islamic boarding school in Mandailing Natal (Madina), North Sumatra.

The accident occurred around 5 a.m. WIB (Western Indonesia Standard Time) while the bus was on its way from the North Sumatra provincial capital of Medan.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities.

The exact cause of the accident is not yet unknown.
