We have summoned all event organizers for a briefing because of the over-capacity (incident).
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has instructed officials to remind event organizing companies of the importance of ensuring safety and implementing crowd control measures during public events and evaluate them on this aspect.
The minister’s directives have come in response to a fatal crowd crush reported during Halloween celebrations (October 29, 2022) in South Korea and crowd control issues witnessed during the “Berdendang Bergoyang” concert here on Sunday (October 30). Following a massive influx of spectators on the second day of the concert, the police issued instructions to cancel the event.
“I have instructed Ms. Rizki Handayani (the ministry’s deputy for tourism products and event organization department) to evaluate and inform event organizers to observe venue capacity, early warning system, evacuation routes, and CPR capability,” Uno said during a weekly briefing here on Monday.
The ministry has summoned several event-organizing companies and reminded them to be more disciplined in managing visitor capacity while organizing events, he informed.
“We have summoned all event organizers for a briefing because of the over-capacity (incident),” he stated.
Event organizers must also observe the cleanliness, health, safety, and environmental sustainability (CHSE) protocols and ensure their proper implementation and management to reduce incident risks, he noted.
The minister then expressed his condolences to the victims of the crowd crush that occurred during Halloween celebrations in Itaewon, Seoul, South Korea. At least 151 people died in the incident.
“Representing the ministry, the Indonesian nation, and those who are here, I express my condolences and solidarity to the incident that occurred during the Halloween night celebration in Itaewon. Two Indonesians were also injured in the incident,” he remarked.
