Indonesia adds 2,457 daily COVID-19 cases

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia recorded 2,457 additional COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total count to 6,493,079, the COVID-19 Handling Task Force reported.

According to the task force’s data, Jakarta contributed the most new cases at 822, followed by West Java (362), East Java (340), Central Java (216), and Banten (197).

Meanwhile, the number of patients recovering from COVID-19 rose by 2,309 to reach 6,309,790 nationwide.

Jakarta contributed the highest number of recoveries on Monday at 562, followed by West Java (188), East Java (393), Banten (316), and Central Java (235).

The task force’s data further showed that 34 patients died of the virus on Monday, including four from East Java, eight from Central Java, and one respectively from Jakarta, Banten, and West Sulawesi.

Meanwhile, 2 of the COVID-19-related deaths were recorded in Yogyakarta, three in South Sulawesi, five in Bali, 3 in South Sumatra, two in West Sumatra, and one respectively in North Sumatra, West Nusa Tenggara, Bengkulu, and Riau Islands.

The task force again reminded the public of the need to strengthen the health protocols in view of the spike in COVID-19 cases.

Coordinator of the expert team and government spokesperson for COVID-19 handling, Prof. Wiku Adisasmito, said the people’s compliance with the health protocols is key to keeping the country’s COVID-19 caseload at a low level.

As the COVID-19 pandemic has shown no signs of abating, the people need to take collective responsibility for maintaining health, he added.
