Jakarta (ANTARA) – The government will open a public registration system for 8,100 people wishing to attend the Commemoration of Indonesia’s Proclamation of Independence at the Merdeka Palace on August 17, 2026.

Deputy State Secretary Juri Ardiantoro stated at a press conference at the Presidential Palace complex here on Friday that the registration mechanism will be announced shortly.

“We will hold a ‘ticket war’ for citizens who wish to attend the commemoration of the Proclamation Ceremony at the Merdeka Palace, allowing the public to be present in person,” he said, referring to the rapid online ticketing rush expected due to high public demand.

In addition to members of the public, the government will also invite winners of the previously announced 81st Independence Day logo competition.

Juri said the government aims to have at least 8,100 participants attend both the morning Proclamation Ceremony and the Lowering of the National Flag Ceremony in the late afternoon on August 17.

He also confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto will preside over the morning ceremony.

The government has established the grand theme for the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in 2026 as “A Sovereign, Fair, and Prosperous Indonesia”.

This theme reflects the direction of national development, emphasizing the values of national independence, equitable justice, and public welfare.

According to Ardiantoro, the government has prepared a series of events to commemorate this year’s Independence Month, involving various ministries, agencies, and the active participation of the public.

The ceremonies on August 17 will serve as the pinnacle of the 81st Independence Day commemorations.

Beyond the official ceremonies, communities across Indonesia are expected to celebrate the occasion with traditional folk games, cultural events, and the hoisting of the red-and-white national flag in their respective neighborhoods.
