Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower stated its National Internship Programme (MagangHub) is aimed at preparing fresh university graduates’ skills to help reduce youth unemployment.
“The Ministry expects the National Internship Programme can contribute to reducing youth unemployment by enhancing the competitiveness and job readiness of fresh graduates,” Head of the Ministry’s Bureau of Public Relations Faried Abdurrahman Nur Yuliono said here on Monday.
Furthermore, Yuliono said one of the main challenges faced by young graduates is the gap between the competencies acquired through formal education and the actual needs of the labor market.
He noted many fresh graduates face a situation where job vacancies require prior work experience, while they have not yet had the opportunity to gain such experience.
“This programme provides university graduates with the opportunity to gain six months of practical work experience, receive guidance from mentors, understand workplace culture, develop technical and non-technical skills, and build their portfolios and professional networks,” he said.

With such experience, Yuliono added, participants are expected to be not only better prepared to seek employment but also more capable of staying, adapting, and growing in the workplace.
The Ministry said in the previous implementation of the programme, around 30 percent of participants received job offers after completing the internship.
In addition, around 34 percent of participants had not yet received formal job offers, but had indications or opportunities to be offered employment, while around 36 percent had not received any job offers.
“This data should be interpreted comprehensively. It means the internship programme does not automatically guarantee immediate employment for all participants, but it has demonstrated a real pathway from internships to employment opportunities,” he said.
Among participants who received job offers, the sectors that absorbed the largest number were finance at 23.4 percent, wholesale trade at 17.9 percent, manufacturing at 16.5 percent, and healthcare at 10.3 percent.
“This serves as input for the Manpower Ministry to strengthen collaboration with sectors that have high labor demand while expanding participation from other sectors so that participants have more diverse opportunities,” Yuliono remarked.
