Indonesia-Thailand ties must deliver direct public benefits: Prabowo

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Thailand must deliver concrete, tangible benefits for the people of both nations while reinforcing stability across the ASEAN region.

The President made the remarks during a bilateral meeting with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday.

“I am confident that today’s meeting will set a clear direction for the next phase of our partnership,” President Prabowo stated, highlighting that bilateral relations continue to strengthen after the two nations officially elevated their ties to a strategic partnership in Bangkok last year.

President Prabowo noted that shared perspectives on foreign policy and international relations, previously discussed during the ASEAN forum in Cebu, the Philippines, last May, serve as vital capital for deepening bilateral collaboration.

“This partnership must be future-oriented and focused on providing tangible benefits to our people,” the President said, adding that close synergy between Indonesia and Thailand will significantly contribute to a stronger and more stable ASEAN amidst global geopolitical shifts.

The state visit is Prime Minister Anutin’s first to Jakarta since assuming office as Thailand’s 32nd Prime Minister in September 2025, and marks the first official visit to Indonesia by a sitting Thai prime minister in 15 years.

During the meeting at the Merdeka Palace, the two leaders formally launched the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026–2030, a comprehensive guide covering cooperation in security, economic development, and socio-cultural sectors.

Prime Minister Anutin’s two-day diplomatic trip to Jakarta, spanning August 3–4, 2026, also includes an address at a joint Thailand-Indonesia business forum and a keynote speech on the future of regional integration at the ASEAN Secretariat.
