Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has prepared 90 digital textbooks on Islamic religious education and Arabic for Islamic schools, or madrasas, from elementary to senior high school levels, with free access through its website.
“All textbooks can be downloaded for free through the ministry’s website,” Director General of Islamic Religious Education Amien Suyitno said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He noted that the collection comprises 58 core textbooks on Islamic and Arabic subjects for elementary, junior high, and senior high schools, as well as 32 titles dedicated to senior high school pupils enrolled in religious studies programs.
Suyitno underlined the initiative as part of the government’s efforts to expand access to learning materials for students and teachers while contributing to literacy enhancement.
He added that the open access to the textbooks aligns with Law No. 3 of 2017 on the book system, noting the ministry’s responsibility to provide quality teaching materials for religious educational institutions.
The official further highlighted that the textbooks “were written in stages in an organized manner” by authors selected through a rigorous screening process.
He emphasized that the publications had undergone reviews, evaluations, and quality assurance by the ministry’s Center for Religious Book Assessment, Lectures, and Religious Literacy.
Nyayu Khodijah, director of curriculum, facilities, institutions, and student affairs for madrasas, noted that the publication follows the issuance of a decree by the religious affairs minister last year.
She elaborated that the textbooks cover a wide range of subjects, including Qur’an and Hadith Studies, Islamic Creed and Ethics, Islamic Jurisprudence, History of Islamic Civilization, Arabic Language, Qur’anic Exegesis, Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence, Islamic Theology, and Sufism.
“The teaching materials enshrined in the textbooks are presented in an easy-to-understand approach to help foster strong character and morals,” Khodijah said.
She added that the elementary and junior high school textbooks adopt “an interactive approach” to promote a moderate understanding of Islam through the daily application of “tolerant and inclusive Islamic values.”
