Surabaya, E Java (ANTARA) – Indonesian Deputy Transportation Minister Suntana disbursed financial assistance to the families of the deceased victims of the KMP Mutiara Sentosa II passenger ferry fire at the Bhayangkara H.S. Samsoeri Mertojoso Hospital here on Tuesday.
He emphasized that the disbursement of the funds reflects the government’s commitment to assisting citizens affected by public transportation accidents.
“The government ensures that the handling of the victims is carried out appropriately and does not burden the victims’ families,” Suntana said.
The families of each deceased victim received Rp50 million in compensation from state-owned insurance company PT Jasa Raharja, along with an additional Rp75 million from the company’s subsidiary, PT Jasaraharja Putera.
President Director of PT Jasa Raharja Muhammad Awaluddin added that financial assistance is also being provided to the survivors.
The company is covering medical expenses of up to Rp20 million per person, while PT Jasaraharja Putera is providing treatment compensation of Rp37.5 million for each injured victim.
“The handover of the compensation is expected to alleviate the financial burden on the victims’ families following the fatal passenger ferry fire,” Awaluddin said.
Meanwhile, Chief of East Java Regional Police Inspector General Nanang Avianto emphasized that his personnel will continue to provide full support in handling the aftermath of the disaster.
He said that police officers remain on standby to support the victim identification process, provide information services to the families, secure the port area, and conduct further coordination with relevant agencies to ensure all stages of victim management proceed swiftly, accurately, and humanely.
Following the compensation handover, the Transportation Ministry delegation and East Java Regional Police officials visited survivors who are still undergoing medical treatment at the PHC Hospital at Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya to ensure they are receiving optimal medical care.
