Jakarta (ANTARA) – Head of the Indonesian Government Communications Office (Bakom) Muhammad Qodari assured the public that national security remains strictly under control ahead of the country’s 81st Independence Day commemorations.
Speaking here on Monday (August 10), he emphasized that the government and security forces are continuously taking preemptive measures to ensure that all national events proceed safely, peacefully, and in an orderly manner.
He clarified that the implementation of security protocols in public spaces is a standard part of routine risk management. These measures, he noted, are designed to protect the public rather than indicate an escalated security threat.
Furthermore, Qodari encouraged the public to welcome Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day with a spirit of unity and mutual cooperation, describing it as a foundational step toward realizing a sovereign, just, and prosperous nation.
“Let us use the momentum of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day as an opportunity to strengthen our patriotism and collective optimism in building a more advanced nation,” he said.
He also called on citizens to remain calm and exercise discernment when consuming information regarding events during this commemorative month, particularly on online platforms.
“It is crucial for all of us to verify the source, timeline, and context of any information before drawing conclusions or sharing it,” he remarked.
While affirming the government’s commitment to respecting every citizen’s constitutional right to freedom of expression, Qodari urged all parties to exercise this right peacefully, orderly, and in strict accordance with prevailing laws.
“Maintaining a healthy digital space is our collective responsibility. The government will continue to provide transparent, prompt, and fact-based information,” he added.
Earlier on Wednesday (August 5), Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago confirmed that recently circulated social media videos depicting ongoing demonstrations are hoaxes. He suspected the videos were deliberately uploaded to mislead the public with false information.
“These hoaxes might feature footage from the past, but currently — and moving forward — there are no such incidents,” Chaniago asserted during a press briefing.
He expressed regret over the video’s narrative, which appeared intended to provoke the public into staging anarchic demonstrations during this month’s Independence Day celebrations.
Chaniago assured the public that the situation in the capital and across the country remains entirely safe and under control.
In a related development, the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police detained nine suspects for allegedly spreading provocative content and fake news regarding potential riots in August 2026.
“Following investigations into five reports, we have detained nine suspects. Investigators have also seized 10 social media accounts as evidence,” the regional police’s Director of General Criminal Investigation Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin stated on Friday (August 7).
