Jakarta (ANTARA) – Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Speaker Sultan B. Najamudin on Friday backed President Prabowo Subianto’s diplomacy to promote a peaceful and just world order amid deepening geopolitical fragmentation.
Speaking at the 2026 Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and joint DPR-DPD session, Najamudin said the world faced a defining historical crossroads.
He said growing geopolitical fragmentation was prompting countries to reassess their national priorities.
“This is where Indonesia’s relevance lies, with its independent and active foreign policy pursued independently and proactively in response to this new era,” he said.
Najamudin said the DPD was strengthening interparliamentary cooperation with friendly countries and was initiating the formation of a Southeast Asian Senate Forum.
He said the initiative reflected Indonesia’s belief that global peace cannot be sustained by powerful nations alone, but requires mutual respect and cooperation.
“Indonesia believes the world cannot be sustained solely by the strong, but by all nations that respect one another and work together to preserve peace,” he said.
The MPR, DPR and DPD held their annual and joint sessions on Friday at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta.
The sessions were state events marking Indonesia’s 81st Independence Anniversary under the theme “A Sovereign, Just and Prosperous Indonesia.”
