Mataram, NTB (ANTARA) – A joint search and rescue (SAR) team evacuated a 61-year-old French tourist, Catherine Marie, on Friday (August 14) after she sustained an injury while hiking on Mount Rinjani in East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
Marie had begun her hike via the Sembalun trail on Tuesday (August 11).
The victim reportedly slipped while descending near the Lendang Panas trail and is suspected to have suffered an injury to her right ankle,” Coordinator of the Sembalun Emergency Response Unit I Dewa Gede Kerta said in a statement released on Friday.
The Mataram SAR Office received a report of the incident at 1:10 p.m. Central Indonesian Time (WITA; GMT+8) on Friday from a local emergency medical officer.
Upon receiving the report, the Sembalun Emergency Response Unit and local volunteers prepared for the rescue operation and departed for the location at around 1:30 p.m. WITA.
The evacuation was carried out using a relay system by the rescue personnel. The victim was safely brought down the mountain and immediately transferred to a nearby medical clinic for further treatment.
“We express our gratitude to the entire joint SAR team, porters, guides, and all parties who assisted in the evacuation process,” Kerta concluded.
