Mimika, Central Papua (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Human Rights is deploying 150,000 personnel in its first phase to map issues surrounding poverty, unemployment, and the fulfillment of basic needs in villages across Indonesia.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Center for Human Rights Studies at the Mimika School of Law (STIH Mimika) in Mimika District, Central Papua, on Tuesday, Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai explained that the personnel are being deployed under the ministry’s Human Rights-Conscious Village program.

He stated that the personnel will not only collect data on general human rights issues but will also map local social conditions and basic needs. This includes tracking poverty and unemployment levels, social assistance requirements, and access to clean water and sanitation.

Additionally, the personnel have been tasked with documenting damage to basic infrastructure, such as roads and bridges. The data will be used as a basis for the Ministry of Human Rights to coordinate targeted responses with relevant ministries and agencies.

Pigai noted that this data-driven approach is essential to identifying the actual challenges faced by communities and ensuring that interventions effectively address their specific needs.

“If there are 10 unemployed people in a small village, the Ministry of Human Rights will step in to help connect those 10 individuals with job opportunities or corporate placement,” he remarked, adding that those needing social assistance will also be recorded.

He added that the workers will also report issues such as lack of clean water access or environmental degradation, which will then be referred to ministries authorized to address them.

Assistance, the minister further said, will continue to be provided to the villages as long as they remain under the guidance of the Ministry of Human Rights. Once various development issues have been addressed, the results will be handed over to the local government for further action.
