Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian government has mobilized relief supplies weighing a total of 253 tons for quake-hit residents in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) as of Wednesday, according to Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
He said President Prabowo Subianto had instructed government aides to continue mounting efforts to ensure the timely distribution of aid to people affected by Saturday’s magnitude 7.7 earthquake.
In a statement cited here from the Presidential Secretariat, Wijaya noted that the government had deployed five more aircraft carrying 65 tons of logistics to NTT from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta early Wednesday.
“Since the initial 27-ton shipment deployed on day one, we have transported 253 tons of logistics in total,” the official remarked.
The deliveries, he continued, comprise food, drinking water, tents, medical supplies and equipment, and other items urgently needed by survivors.
Wijaya added that the government had established two command centers on quake-hit Flores Island to facilitate the swift distribution of aid, one in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai District, and the other in Maumere, Sikka District.
He further noted that multiple state institutions had deployed land, sea, and air transportation to support relief operations, with airlifts carried out by helicopters, Cassa aircraft, and other small aircraft.
The cabinet secretary also highlighted the arrival of three Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) vessels in NTT waters, alongside a navy hospital ship that was preparing to enter the region.
“Reports from the public works minister indicate that all overland routes have become accessible since day two,” Wijaya added.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to closely monitoring conditions and ensuring that relief supplies reach all affected communities as quickly as possible.
The tectonic earthquake struck waters north of Flores on Saturday, sending tremors across the island and several neighboring regions beyond NTT. Indonesia’s disaster agency, BNPB, reported that the death toll hit 70.
