Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia has gone four consecutive years without a terrorist attack, Deputy Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Lodewijk F. Paulus said on Friday, urging continued vigilance.
“Let’s stay vigilant against terrorism. Thankfully, we have entered our fourth year of zero attacks. This is something we must continue to safeguard,” he said.
The government, through the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) and police Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88), works with the public to prevent terrorist incidents, he said.
Terrorism and violent extremism are not merely crimes against individuals but crimes against humanity that undermine the public’s sense of security, Lodewijk said.
“We do not want to see any more victims of terrorism. BNPT, the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), and law enforcement agencies cannot work alone,” he said.
BNPT Head Eddy Hartono said Indonesia’s four-year period without terrorist incidents reflected collaborative efforts by intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
Authorities have thwarted 28 planned terrorist attacks over the past four years, Eddy said.
The preventive approach is consistent with Law No. 5/2018, which criminalizes preparatory acts of terrorism, enabling authorities to address threats at an early stage, he said.
