Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA) – An Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) Sukhoi fighter jet overran the runway at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport near Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Monday.

Taufan Yudhistira, an official from the airport operator, confirmed the incident, which startled passersby on the Makassar-Maros road and quickly went viral on social media.

“We can confirm that the incident occurred on the western side of Runway 13 at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport,” Yudhistira said.

He added that the airport operator and the TNI AU are working to evacuate the aircraft.

Yudhistira noted that flight operations at the airport continue to run normally despite the crash, with takeoffs and landings redirected to the second runway.

“Flight operations are continuing on Runway 03/21 along the north-south axis while the evacuation of the military jet is ongoing,” he remarked.

Videos circulating on social media show the aftermath of the crash, with the fighter jet coming to rest nose-down in a grassy, sloped area beyond the runway.
