Family planning assistance as investment in human development: Gov’t

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Deputy Minister of Population and Family Development/Deputy Head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka said the Family Planning Operational Assistance Fund (BOKB) is an important instrument for investing in human development.

“Family development and family planning are essentially about the future of the Indonesian people. Family planning is about allowing every family to plan their lives better, ensuring maternal and child health, preventing high-risk pregnancies, preventing stunting, and ultimately improving the quality of the generation that will shape Indonesia’s future. From this perspective, BOKB is an investment in human development,” Isyana said in an official statement issued in Jakarta on Thursday.

The Ministry on Wednesday (Aug 26) analyzed and evaluated the management of the non-physical special allocation fund for the family planning subsector based on achievements in the first half of 2026 to ensure that family development and family planning services reach communities.

Isyana said the success of the BOKB depends on several factors, including ensuring that budget allocations are aligned with needs, compliance with applicable regulations in managing the fund, and an orientation toward outcomes.

Collaboration between the central and regional governments is also needed to achieve the fund target, which is around Rp1.99 trillion for fiscal year 2026.

The BOKB in 2026 provides various forms of funding support for the implementation of family planning programs in the regions, including services and activities aimed at expanding access to and improving the quality of family planning and reproductive health services, strengthening family development, and supporting interventions to accelerate stunting prevention.

“At the provincial and district/city levels, cooperation in managing BOKB can translate into changes in the lives of Indonesian families, toward better and higher-quality families,” she said.
