Bandarlampung, Lampung (ANTARA) – The Lampung Regional Police have urged parents to step up supervision of their children’s daily activities, social circles, and social media usage to protect them from negative influences and potential legal troubles.
“Such supervision is crucial to prevent children from becoming involved in various issues, ranging from drug abuse, promiscuity, and illegal online loans, to activities that could turn violent,” Lampung Regional Police spokeswoman Senior Commissioner Yuni Iswandari said on Saturday.
Iswandari stressed that merely knowing a child’s whereabouts is insufficient; parents must also actively monitor their social environment and digital footprint to prevent them from engaging in destructive behaviors that could jeopardize their futures.
Rapid technological advancements necessitate active parental monitoring in the digital space. Illegal online lending platforms are a primary concern, prompting her to call on parents to educate their children about the dangers of deceptive online offers.
“Children and teenagers who do not fully grasp the risks of debt can easily be tempted by loan offers or illegal financial activities on the internet,” she warned.
Furthermore, Iswandari cautioned parents against allowing minors to participate in public rallies that could escalate into riots.
“We appeal to parents to ensure their children steer clear of potentially chaotic rallies. They might just be following the crowd, but they could easily end up as victims if the situation becomes volatile,” she explained.
She pointed out that adolescents are highly susceptible to peer pressure, making open communication at home essential to equip them with the confidence to refuse risky invitations.
“Establish open communication so that children do not solely turn to their peers or social media for answers. Help them distinguish between positive activities and those that could endanger them,” Iswandari advised.
Reiterating that early prevention is vital, she urged parents to stay vigilant regarding any sudden changes in their children’s behavior, social circles, or daily routines.
“Do not let a child’s future be compromised by a momentary poor decision or peer pressure. We must take preventive measures early on so they do not fall prey to drugs, promiscuity, illegal loans, or chaotic riots,” she concluded.
