Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Culture Ministry plans a tribute exhibition featuring works by late visual artist Nasirun at the Indonesian National Gallery, honoring his contributions to the country’s arts community.
Culture Minister Fadli Zon said here Sunday that the exhibition would honor Nasirun’s contributions and coincide with the 40th day after his death.
During a visit to Nasirun’s family in Yogyakarta on Thursday (August 20), Zon said the exhibition would give art enthusiasts another opportunity to appreciate the artist’s major works.
The exhibition will also serve as the National Gallery’s closing event before the venue undergoes renovations, he said.
Reflecting on Nasirun’s death on August 1, Zon described his passing as a major loss for Indonesia’s arts community and the public.
“He was an Indonesian visual arts maestro I had known for more than a dozen years. We have truly lost a remarkable figure,” he said, offering condolences to his family.
Zon recalled Nasirun as warm, humorous and friendly, saying those qualities made his Yogyakarta home and gallery an inclusive meeting place for artists and residents.
He said those qualities were also reflected in Nasirun’s works, which are known for their rich traditional and spiritual elements.
“We pray that Nasirun’s good deeds and contributions during his lifetime become an everlasting charity and that he is granted the most gracious place alongside God Almighty,” he said.
Nasirun’s wife, Supartilah, expressed the family’s deep appreciation and gratitude to the government for its attention and support.
She hoped Nasirun’s works and ideals would become a lasting legacy, inspiring Indonesian youth to continue embracing the country’s culture.
