Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Yandri Susanto has appointed Mojokerto District, East Java, to host activities commemorating 2027 National Village Day.
He noted in a statement on Tuesday that the designation reflected the government’s recognition of the cultural wealth and tourism potential showcased by rural areas across the district.
“I believe that Mojokerto District truly is worthy of hosting 2027 National Village Day celebrations. Hence, I will ask the ministry’s secretary-general to issue a decree designating Mojokerto as the host,” Susanto said.
He made the statement during a meeting with Mojokerto District Head Muhammad Albarra at his office in Jakarta on Monday (Aug. 31).
The minister described Mojokerto as a concrete manifestation of noble values from the past translated into present-day achievements, highlighting the emergence of modern villages in the district. He also commended the region for continuously innovating in public service digitalization and promoting transparency.
These developments are reflected in the fact that rural areas in Mojokerto have attained independent village status in the Developing Villages Index, he added, citing efficient and technology-backed budget management and public services.
Bearing that in mind, Susanto argued that Mojokerto is “more prepared than other districts that had previously offered to host National Village Day.” He said the district has the potential to enliven the celebrations with its cultural heritage and traditional arts.
Meanwhile, District Head Albarra noted the designation as a strategic moment for the region to cement its position as the epicenter of rural development and innovation.
He assured that the Mojokerto district government is ready to facilitate the national event, having demonstrated its ability to advance rural communities through a modern approach to governance.
