Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) – The Bali Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) found the body of a 44-year-old Polish citizen, Marcin Dawid, who was swept away by currents at Tembles Beach in Jembrana District, Bali.
“We received information from our colleagues at Air Kuning Beach that a body had been found on the shore of Air Kuning Beach,” Coordinator of the Jembrana Search and Rescue (SAR) Post Dewa Hendri Gunawan said in a statement on Thursday.
The victim’s body was found by local residents at around 5:20 p.m. local time on Wednesday (September 2).
According to Gunawan, the body was found approximately 7.5 kilometers west of the location where the incident occurred.
Witnesses then reported the discovery to the local police, he added.
SAR officers who received the report immediately went to the location to recover the victim’s body.
“The victim was then taken to Negara Hospital by ambulance from the Jembrana Police Medical Unit for further examination,” Gunawan said.
He explained that the search for the Polish national began after the victim arrived at Tembles Beach on Sunday (August 30) at around 6:00 p.m.
Suspicions that he had been swept away emerged after his motorcycle and several personal belongings were found abandoned on the beach.
The Bali Basarnas office received the report on Monday (August 31) at 5:55 a.m., initially identifying the victim as a British citizen.
The victim was later confirmed to be a Polish national on the second day of the search after officers found his identity card.
The three-day SAR operation involved searches by sea, land, and air. The team used a rubber boat to search the waters to the west and a thermal drone to conduct an aerial search.
After initially yielding no results, the search concluded successfully on the third day after a resident reported finding the victim’s body.
Gunawan said Basarnas was joined in the operation by the Jembrana Police, Mendoyo Sector Police, Indonesian Navy Pengambengan Post, Bali Regional Police Mobile Brigade Unit, Jembrana Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Arjuna Rescue, and local residents.
