Jakarta (ANTARA) – Jakarta’s public water utility, PAM JAYA, said the capital city’s piped water remains safe to drink and meets national standards despite weather conditions and volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.
PAM JAYA President Director Arief Nasrudin said water quality is checked regularly to ensure supplies meet health standards set by Indonesia’s Health Ministry Regulation No. 2 of 2023.
“PAM JAYA ensures piped drinking water undergoes treatment and quality controls before reaching customers,” Arief said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The monitoring covers the entire supply chain, from raw-water sources and treatment facilities to water ready for distribution through the pipeline network, he said.
To safeguard the quality and continuity of raw-water supplies, PAM JAYA officials also visited Jatiluhur to assess conditions and readiness at a key source for Jakarta’s water system.
The visit was aimed at ensuring raw-water availability and supply processes remain stable, allowing PAM JAYA to maintain uninterrupted service to customers, Arief said.
Beyond treatment and quality controls, the piped distribution network provides additional protection against environmental exposure or contamination during delivery.
Treated water that meets required standards is transported through pipelines directly to customers, reducing the risk of exposure to environmental contaminants during distribution.
Arief urged customers to remain calm and continue using PAM JAYA water as usual.
“We understand current conditions may cause concern among the public. However, customers do not need to worry about PAM JAYA water quality,” Arief said.
He urged customers to use water wisely and according to their daily needs, while maintaining clean water facilities and surroundings at home.
Customers should ensure storage tanks, including rooftop water tanks, and faucets remain clean to help preserve water quality until it is used.
PAM JAYA said its measures will allow customers to continue using piped water for daily needs without concern about volcanic ash affecting water quality.
