Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Jakarta Youth and Sports Office stated that National Sports Day (Haornas) serves as a reminder that sports are an important part of life, not only for athletes but for the public as well.

“Sports are a very valuable investment for ourselves. If we are fit, healthy, and productive, everything we do can be productive, and more importantly, benefit society,” head of the office, Andri Yansyah, said during a podcast here on Wednesday.

He said his side wants to connect residents with sports so that exercising does not remain just an occasional activity.

He pointed out that more and more residents are now willing to exercise, as shown by the large crowds attending Car Free Day (CFD) events on Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin Street and HR Rasuna Said Street.

According to him, CFD is also held once a month in five administrative areas of Jakarta, with plans to increase the frequency to twice a month.

“In the five administrative areas, Car Free Day is currently held once a month. Going forward, God willing, we will make it twice a month, and hopefully once a week eventually. Public enthusiasm for sports is getting higher, because they are already aware that exercise is a necessity,” Yansyah said.

He said residents can make use of facilities provided by the Jakarta Provincial Government, including sports centers, parks, stadiums, and child-friendly integrated public spaces (RPTRA).

He noted there are 169 sports facilities, halls, and stadiums available for the public to use to exercise.

Yansyah also suggested that everyone can stay active by choosing activities suited to their ability and age, such as walking, jogging, light exercise, or exercising with a community group.

Meanwhile, the 43rd National Sports Day in 2026, commemorated on September 9, carries the theme “Toward an Active and Fit Society.”
