Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) – Indonesia and Malaysia are strengthening strategic health cooperation to address current and future health challenges, including digital health, healthy aging, traditional medicine and emerging disease threats.
Malaysia’s Health Ministry said on Wednesday that the issues were discussed during a meeting between Malaysian Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad and Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin on the sidelines of the 17th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting in Malaysia.
New areas of focus include digital health, traditional and complementary medicine, healthy aging and environmental health, particularly amid threats from zoonotic diseases and dengue fever.
Malaysia’s Health Ministry also emphasized efforts to expand implementation of the health memorandum of understanding signed in Jakarta on July 29, 2025.
The ministry said close cooperation between the neighboring countries reflected an ongoing commitment to strengthen health-system resilience and ensure sustainable, continuous and quality public health services for community welfare.
It also expressed appreciation for continued confidence in Malaysia as a major medical tourism destination, which generated more than 2.2 billion ringgit (Rp9.4 trillion) from 968,706 visits in 2025.
