Jakarta (ANTARA) -President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to preside over the main ceremony marking the 81st anniversary of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) at the National Monument (Monas) square in Central Jakarta.
“TNI will stage a military parade and defile on October 5 at Monas, with Mr. President expected to preside over the ceremony,” Head of the TNI Information Office Major General Muhammad Nas told reporters at the venue on Saturday.
He said the commemorative event would involve 51,000 personnel from various service branches and corps, who will take part in the parade and defile before the president, ministers, and senior military officers.
TNI also plans to showcase a wide range of land-based and aerial defense equipment, some of which will be used in combat simulations at the Monas square.
“There will be 900 pieces of equipment in total,” Nas said, adding that cavalry units and K-9 teams would also take part in the event.
He added that the military is advancing preparations to ensure the 81st anniversary commemoration is conducted safely and runs smoothly.
Earlier, he confirmed that Indonesia’s first aircraft carrier, KRI Sriwijaya, would take part in a naval parade in Jakarta Bay ahead of the main ceremony.
“Our planning data shows that 102 naval vessels will participate in the naval parade,” he told ANTARA on Sept. 15.
Previously operated by the Italian Navy as ITS Giuseppe Garibaldi, KRI Sriwijaya arrived in Jakarta on Friday (Sept. 18) to begin service with the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL).
The aircraft carrier was escorted by two Italian warships during its voyage from Italy and was later welcomed by two TNI AL frigates upon entering Indonesian waters.
