Jakarta (ANTARA) – Foreign Minister Sugiono has arrived in New York, the United States, as head of Indonesia’s delegation to this week’s 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela, in a statement to ANTARA in Jakarta, Sugiono, who arrived in New York on Monday local time, is scheduled to deliver Indonesia’s national statement at the UNGA General Debate session on Saturday (September 26) evening.
The national statement will convey Indonesia’s views and positions on various global developments and challenges, while affirming the country’s commitment to multilateralism, consensus amid global challenges, and the interests of developing nations.
“Indonesia will continue to voice the interests of developing countries and contribute to world peace, including by reaffirming its support for the Palestinian people’s struggle and efforts toward the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza,” Mulachela said.
During his time in New York, the foreign minister will attend a series of high-level and ministerial meetings addressing strategic issues, including peace and security, the Palestinian issue, climate change, and multilateralism.
In addition, Sugiono is scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings with several UN member states and Indonesia’s partners to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The Indonesian delegation will also use this year’s UN General Assembly session to launch its campaign for Indonesia’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2029-2030 term.
Mulachela stressed that Indonesia’s participation in this year’s UN General Assembly reflects the country’s commitment to playing an active role in addressing global challenges and offering solutions.
“Indonesia will continue to promote international dialogue and cooperation, as well as make a real contribution to global peace, stability, and welfare,” he stated.
The 81st Session of the UN General Assembly officially opened in New York on September 8. This year’s session carries the theme “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.”
The General Debate session is scheduled to take place from September 22-26, with a continuation on September 28.
