Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Communication and Digital and the Government of the Russian Federation are exploring cooperation in satellite technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to support digital transformation and expand digital access across Indonesia.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Angga Raka Prabowo said equitable distribution of digital infrastructure was a crucial component of Indonesia’s digital transformation, given the country’s vast territory and the public’s need for connectivity.
“That is also our vision for digital transformation. We seek to develop digital infrastructure that ensures equitable access for all, given Indonesia’s vast geographical size,” Angga said in a statement on Thursday.
He made the remarks while receiving a diplomatic delegation representing the Presidential Envoy of the Russian Federation in Jakarta on Wednesday (September 23).
During the meeting, the Russian delegation outlined opportunities to utilize satellite technology, including the provision of administrative systems and receiver equipment in Indonesia, as well as access to satellite data.
The delegation also explained that the network in question comprises 98 satellites, with affiliated companies launching approximately 16 satellites annually. The information was presented as part of a technology proposal for further exploration.
“Russia can also collaborate with Indonesian satellite companies, including state-owned enterprises,” Angga said.
The discussion also addressed human resource development and technology research. The Russian side proposed educational programs and the establishment of laboratories in Indonesia where students could gain hands-on experience in learning about and operating satellites.
“Regarding satellites and communications, we have several institutions dedicated to research and technological innovation,” Angga said.
Angga said digital literacy was now essential not only for students but also for the general public.
“When we discuss digital literacy, our focus should be on ensuring that it genuinely serves the needs of the community. It should go beyond simply enabling the public to use technology,” he remarked.
According to Angga, the discussion marked a starting point for identifying areas of mutual interest, with potential follow-up cooperation covering satellite technology, AI, research and innovation, and digital talent development aligned with the needs of both countries.
