Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s National Police, through its counterterrorism force Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88), have arrested 12 individuals suspected of links to terrorist networks in a series of operations carried out across six provinces since Oct. 2.

Densus 88 spokesperson Commissioner General Mayndra Eka Wardhana said in a statement here on Sunday that the suspects were apprehended in West Java, Central Java, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Riau, and North Maluku provinces.

He identified the suspects by their initials as HN, SM, HA, YDKAP, Y, S, CG, J, MG, AF, and MW, aged between 22 and 52.

“The suspects are believed to be affiliated with Daulah Islamiyah and other terrorist networks,” Wardhana added.

He noted that the arrests were followed by a series of investigative measures, including search operations, the seizure and examination of evidence, and the questioning of witnesses and suspects.

Preliminary investigations revealed apparent links among the 12 suspects despite their operations spanning different provinces across the archipelago, he added.

Wardhana further revealed that the suspects played various roles within their networks, including network consolidation, training, propaganda dissemination, direct and online recruitment, and planning of terrorist acts.

“One of the schemes uncovered involves online meetings that virtually connected supporters of Daulah Islamiyah from several regions,” he said.

He went on to say that investigators suspected some of the detainees of participating in training activities, including physical exercises, shooting drills, and other activities linked to preparations for terrorist acts.

“Investigators will further examine the evidence collected and the links connecting the suspects to other individuals and networks,” the officer said.

He underscored that the law enforcement measures form part of the police’s efforts to mitigate the risk of terrorist acts by disrupting propaganda activities, recruitment, indoctrination, and training that could lead to violence.
