Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto urged the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) to enhance their professionalism in serving the nation and helping Indonesia navigate an increasingly complex global security environment.
He delivered the message during a briefing for 800 senior TNI and Polri officers at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Dudung Abdurachman said.
Dudung added that the briefing also focused on personnel capacity building, with the president stressing the need to align education and training programs with emerging threats and evolving security risks.
“Mr. President raised concerns about emerging challenges, including those related to hybrid warfare and the use of drones. Equally important is responding to the current global situation by enhancing personnel professionalism through education and training,” the minister said.
He also highlighted the president’s call for merit-based recruitment systems that provide equal opportunities to candidates with the required capabilities, including those with certain physical limitations.
“Therefore, candidates who wear glasses and aspire to join the military or the police should be given opportunities, provided they are intelligent,” Dudung said.
He further said that Prabowo also used the gathering to personally express his appreciation to both institutions for their contributions to the country.
“The president extended his appreciation to the military and police for their continued support of government programs, including efforts to strengthen food and energy security, as well as for maintaining the country’s overall security,” Dudung added.
Earlier, Prabowo opened the forum by expressing his intention to brief participants on the current national situation.
“I deliberately invited senior officers here ahead of the second anniversary of my administration. I want to present an overview of the conditions we are facing as a nation and as a state,” he said.
TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto and Polri Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto attended the briefing. Both viewed the forum as an opportunity to receive the president’s directives for their respective institutions on serving the nation.
