Jakarta (ANTARA) – Head of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Indonesia Bruce Hung has highlighted the important role of Indonesian migrant workers and students in strengthening ties between Taiwan and Indonesia.

In his remarks at a Double Tenth Day celebration in Jakarta on Wednesday, Hung said bilateral ties continued to develop across trade, investment, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

“More than 400,000 Indonesian migrant workers and 18,000 Indonesian students are now living in Taiwan, and the people of Taiwan regard them as family,” Hung said.

He also expressed appreciation to President Prabowo Subianto, the Indonesian government, and the Indonesian people for their continued support for close Taiwan-Indonesia relations.

Hung said one of Taiwan’s support for Indonesian migrant workers is through Taiwan’s National Health Insurance system, which also covers around 400,000 Indonesian migrant workers.

He said the system provides Indonesian workers with peace of mind while living and working in Taiwan, as they do not need to worry about medical expenses or hesitate to seek healthcare when they fall ill.

Besides employment and healthcare, Hung said Taiwan and Indonesia also have opportunities to further expand cooperation in various fields.

In his remarks, he also highlighted Taiwan’s economic and technological development, including its position in the global semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industries.

He said Taiwan’s stock market capitalization had reached US$5.3 trillion, making it one of the world’s largest stock markets.

Hung said the growth was closely linked to Taiwan’s position as a major player in the global semiconductor and AI industries.

Hung also highlighted investment by US technology company NVIDIA in Taiwan after the company established its first overseas AI supercomputing center in Taipei.

Meanwhile, Hung invited Indonesians to learn more about Taiwan through cultural exchanges, including culinary exchanges.

He said Taiwanese people had enjoyed a variety of Indonesian restaurants and dishes, while he also sought to introduce several Taiwanese dishes to guests at the event.

“I hope you all enjoy the taste of Taiwan,” Hung said.

He also expressed hope that ties and exchanges between the people of Taiwan and Indonesia would continue to grow in the future.
