Badung, Bali (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas launched a programme that integrates geographical indications with tourism, culture, cuisine, the creative economy, and local community economic development.
The programme called Geographical Indications (GI) Tourism Indonesia: From Origin to Experience was introduced as part of the Gala Dinner of the Global Dialogue on Cross-Border Copyright Royalty Governance in the Digital Era in Badung District, Bali, on Wednesday night (Oct 7).
“This programme integrates geographical indications with tourism, culture, cuisine, the creative economy, and local community economic development,” Minister Agtas said.

Through the approach, he explained, the tourists not only visit destinations but also learn about the origins of products, how they are made, and the communities and traditions that safeguard them.
GI Tourism Indonesia is a first step to show how local wealth can be connected to tourism experiences and developed according to the character of other regions in Indonesia.
Agtas said the From Origin to Experience concept connects a region’s geographical character with its signature products, communities, culture, production processes, gastronomy, and tourism experiences.
Through such approach, he noted, tourists can get to know products along with the stories, traditions, and communities behind the local wealth there.

Agtas added Dieng Plateau in Central Java is the starting tourism point for developing GI Tourism Indonesia. Three products are part of the concept, namely Dieng Mountains Arabica Coffee of Banjarnegara, Dieng Carica, and Dieng Purwaceng.
The arabica coffee is registered as a geographical indication, while Dieng Carica and Dieng Purwaceng have been registered since 2018.
Agtas expressed hope GI Tourism development in Dieng Plateau could be the value added points for geographical indication products and local communities while preserving cultural heritage and local wisdom.
“As a result, the benefits of geographical indications can be felt more widely by producers, MSME players, the tourism sector, and local communities,” he said.
