Jakarta (ANTARA) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi arrived in Jakarta on Saturday for a state visit ahead of talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Sunday, Oct. 11.
Al-Sisi’s plane landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in East Jakarta at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Dudung Abdurachman and Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir welcomed him.
“The main purpose of the visit is to strengthen strategic cooperation between Indonesia and Egypt,” Nasir said after the welcoming ceremony.
Nasir said the visit reciprocated Prabowo’s trips to Egypt in 2024 and 2025. Indonesia is the final stop on al-Sisi’s Asian tour, following visits to South Korea on Oct. 6-9 and Malaysia on Oct. 9-10.
Six Indonesian Air Force fighter jets — four Sukhois and two F-16s — escorted al-Sisi’s aircraft as it approached Jakarta.
Al-Sisi was also welcomed by Egypt’s ambassador and defense attaché. An Indonesian honor guard and performers of traditional Betawi dances took part in the ceremony.
Nasir said Prabowo would receive al-Sisi at Merdeka Palace at 10:30 a.m. Sunday to discuss bilateral cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.
The agenda includes a private meeting, bilateral talks and the signing of memorandums of understanding, Nasir said.
The MoUs will cover visas, statistics and fisheries cooperation, as well as an action plan to strengthen the strategic partnership, he said.
Al-Sisi is scheduled to return to Egypt on Sunday afternoon after completing his official program in Indonesia, Nasir said.
