Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) –
Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) conducted an urgent air medical evacuation for a Spanish Moto2 rider injured in a crash at the Mandalika Circuit on Saturday.
“This step was taken after the circuit medical team recommended further medical treatment at a referral hospital,” Mataram Search and Rescue Office Head Muhamad Hariyadi said on Sunday.
The rider crashed during Qualifying 1 (Q1) of the 2026 Indonesian MotoGP.
A Basarnas Dauphin HR-3601 helicopter transported the patient from the Mandalika Circuit Medical Center helipad to West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Provincial Hospital in a 15-minute flight, landing at 11:24 a.m. WITA.
Following intensive treatment at the hospital, the rider was flown back to the Mandalika Circuit aboard a second Basarnas helicopter, a Dauphin HR-3604.
Basarnas deployed two AS 365 N3+ helicopters on standby throughout the event to ensure rapid medical evacuation capabilities for the international race.
The medical emergency coincided with high-stakes action at Mandalika ahead of Sunday’s main race.
Ducati Lenovo rider Marc Marquez captured victory in Saturday’s sprint race after starting fifth, overcoming challenges from Jorge Martin, Ai Ogura, and Fabio Di Giannantonio.
The sprint victory earned Marquez 12 points, elevating the reigning world champion to the top of the 2026 standings with 343 points—four points ahead of Martin.
