One Homeland, One Nation, One Language, One Data Indonesia: DPR

Jakarta (ANTARA) – House of Representatives (DPR) Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad delivered a speech that extended the 1928 Youth Pledge to “One Homeland, One Nation, One Language, One Data Indonesia.”

“Data sovereignty and the digital ecosystem are an important part of national economic resilience, defense, and security,” Ahmad said at the commemoration of 98 years of the Youth Pledge at the parliamentary complex here on Wednesday.

According to him, the Youth Pledge needs to be accompanied by responsibility for the times. What he said was not about changing the historical text, but about translating the spirit of unity into a present-day context.

He said that everything now must be integrated with the One Data Indonesia framework, namely accurate population data to serve citizens, data and recognition of indigenous communities that respect collective rights, secure information exchange for cyber resilience, and asset tracing based on legitimate, auditable legal authority.

According to him, integration is not a license to open all data to all parties, and access to data must be limited according to purpose, authority, security, and citizens’ rights.

He assessed that a country unable to protect its data and infrastructure will find it hard to determine its own direction.

However, one data does not mean all decisions must be centralized, because the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) stands on the principle of decentralization, he added.

Provincial, district, city, sub-district, and village governments, he said, must keep carrying out their authority. On the other hand, the public must be involved and their rights protected.

“What we unite are standards, connectivity, and responsibility for data, not killing the diversity and initiative of the regions,” he said.

For that reason, he stressed that a strong country is not one that controls everything from the center, but one able to unite the strengths of all its regions.

Earlier, the DPR approved the One Data Indonesia Bill to be passed into law, with Legislation Body Deputy Chair Sturman Panjaitan saying it was based on the constitutional mandate to protect all citizens and that quality data is the foundation of safe, transparent, and accountable public policy.
