Lombok Timur (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has provided a grant to the East Lombok District Government in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) to support the reconstruction and rehabilitation of public facilities damaged by recent disasters.

“East Lombok has received a grant of Rp11.377 billion (about US$627,771) from BNPB for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of several disaster-affected facilities,” East Lombok District Head Haerul Warisin said in a written statement in East Lombok on Friday.

He said the grant would be used to reconstruct the Apitaik-Teko Bridge in Teko Village, Pringgabaya Sub-District.

Reconstruction would also be carried out on the Ulem-ulem Bridge in Tetebatu Village, Sikur Sub-District, and the Berang Panas-Jeruk Manis Bridge in Jeruk Manis Village, Sikur Sub-District.

“The funds will also be allocated for the rehabilitation of the SMPN SATAP 1 Montong Gading school building in Perian Village, Montong Gading Sub-District,” he said.

Warisin expressed his appreciation for the grant, saying the central government’s assistance was crucial to accelerating the recovery of disaster-damaged infrastructure and enabling community activities to return to normal as soon as possible.

“We hope this assistance will help accelerate economic growth in the community,” he said.

The district head also expressed hope that the government would bring disaster management services closer to local communities by establishing a BNPB regional office at the provincial level in NTB.

Such an office would help speed up coordination in disaster management, he added.

“In the future, BNPB will establish regional offices in the provinces. We are very grateful for this, as communication has been difficult due to the distance,” he said.

“I hope BNPB will be able to establish a regional office in every province,” he added.

In addition to improving communication and coordination, Warisin said the establishment of provincial BNPB offices would also facilitate monitoring and supervision.

Apart from East Lombok, 35 other regions have also received rehabilitation and reconstruction grants, bringing the total allocation to more than Rp564.572 billion (about US$31,513).

The rehabilitation and reconstruction grants will be included in the respective Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) budget implementation documents (DPA) and must be used in accordance with applicable regulations.
