AI success in public services measured by real impact: Deputy Minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said the government measures the success of artificial intelligence (AI) adoption in public services based on improved service quality and its benefits for the public.

“The measure of success is better service, better decisions, fairer access, and greater dignity in how the public interacts with the state,” Patria said at the AI Incubation for Public Sector Demo Day 2026 event here on Tuesday.

Patria said the application of AI-based solutions can help simplify and improve the efficiency of public service delivery in Indonesia, a country with many islands and regions with differing needs.

To help optimising public service delivery, he added, developers need to present solutions suited to local conditions as well as the needs and digital literacy of local residents.

“A solution that succeeds in one circumstance may not succeed in another without careful adaptation,” he said.

Adoption alone is not enough and the adaptation is what matters most, adding that AI must align with local language, local norms, local data, and local patterns of need.

Moreover, he also emphasised the importance of data protection and security in the use of digital technology solutions to support trustworthy public service delivery.

“The promise of AI is significant, but promise alone is not public value. Public value emerges when technology meets real human needs, supported by competent institutions, governed by clear safeguards, and shaped through collaboration,” Patria remarked.

Previously, Patria affirmed Indonesia possesses the fundamental elements needed to develop advanced digital technologies, particularly AI.

The foundation consists of robust digital infrastructure and connectivity, a growing pool of digital talent, and forward-looking regulatory frameworks designed to balance technological innovation with user security.
