Aircraft skids off C Papua runway, leaving two passengers injured

Nabire, Central Papua (ANTARA) – A Cessna Caravan turboprop aircraft operated by Asian One Air skidded off the runway during landing at Bilorai Airport in Central Papua’s Intan Jaya District on Saturday morning, injuring at least two passengers.

Local police cordoned off the crash site and launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on reports that the aircraft’s landing gear detached upon impact.

“We are investigating the accident to determine the cause, as well as reviewing reports that the plane’s gear came off during landing,” said Intan Jaya Police Chief Commissioner Sofian Corneles Samakori.

The aircraft, bearing registration code PK-LTF, landed at approximately 8:30 a.m. local time when the landing gear reportedly failed, causing a severe jolt and prompting the pilot to steer left off the tarmac to control the vessel.

The plane was carrying two crew members and eight passengers, including four military and police personnel alongside four civilians.

Two Indonesian military officers sustained injuries in the hard landing: Chief Sergeant Matheus suffered a waist injury, while First Corporal Johar sustained a head injury. The remaining six passengers and crew escaped unharmed.

Police officials stated that aviation investigators are evaluating the structural damage to the aircraft and interviewing witnesses to determine the exact mechanical cause of the gear failure.
